Guided Mountain Biking

Our days guided mountain biking have been developed by myself, a local guide who knows the area and is fully qualified as a member of the Scottish Mountain Bike Leader Association. The routes that we at The Slug and Hare Bicycle Company have developed are based in the Eastern Lake District and Eden Valley. We can cater for any skill level and the difficult of the ride can be altered to suite the requirements of each group. Mountain bikes, helmets, gloves, a full repair kit and lunch are all provided. The terrain covered ranges from climbing on stony bridleways to descending on high-speed single track. Those who have never mountain biked before will get full instruction in all aspects of mountain biking and the chance to apply this initial instruction to the trails.

A normal guided mountain bike route will take up to 6 hours and will include:

  • An introduction to mountain biking

  • Full instruction for beginners and guidance for more experienced riders

  • Lunch

  • Continued coaching through out the ride.

  • Bike, helmet and gloves

  • A full repair kit with instruction of how to use it

  • Full local knowledge of the area

Clothing

Padded cycling shorts are recommended if riding for more than one day, and can be bought for a second days riding. A waterproof jacket is recommended and trainers are suggested over walking boots.

Guided Downhill Days

A downhill day out consists of a day’s guided downhill riding within the Lakes. We run a mini bus service to pick you up and drop you back off fitted with a trailer to transport bikes. We fit in as many different downhill’s as possible and bus you from one to the other, as close to the tops as possible to minimize the amount of pushing. You will be guided to the routes and delivered from one to the other and if new to the sport guided on them, bikes are not provided. We at The Slug and Hare Bicycle Company will try and fit in as many different routes as possible during day light hours but usually manage to descend 5 different routes twice per day. The routes are all varied from very technical rock step sections, steep hairpins to huge rock gardens, but always something to suite every downhill discipline around. A large lunch will also be provided.

A downhill day out will take up to 9 hours and will include:

  • Delivery from route to route

  • Full instruction for beginners

  • Lunch

  • Continued coaching through out the rides.

  • As many different rides as possible within the day as long as everyone is keen to continue throughout.

  • The opportunity to stay at one route all day if the group is all agreed.

Clothing and protection

This is a very dangerous discipline and no one will be able to take part without a helmet or gloves. Other than that all other safety equipment is recommended. Large t-shirts to fit protection under and padded DH shorts are recommended also.
