Bike Hire

Our self guided cycle routes are for people who want to venture along country lanes and open roads at their own pace following a route that’s designed for maximum enjoyment. We at The Slug and Hare Bicycle Company will hire you a bike, helmet, gloves and repair pack (just in case) which we will be shown you how to use the equipment and leave the rest to you. If any major problems do arise (not just a puncture) we will come and repair the bike or swap it for a new one. The route you will follow is laminated, in case the weather comes in and has a written described, there is a map and a height, climbed graph to show you how far and high you have come.

Hiring a bike and following a self guided cycle route includes:

  • A cycle, helmet and gloves for the day

  • A map, step by step guide, and high climbed graph

  • Lunch

  • A full repair kit with instruction of how to use it.

  • The knowledge to know if anything major went wrong we would be out to fix/ repair.

  • Full local Knowledge of the area

 

Tandem Hire

Hiring a tandem could be a daunting experience if you have never ridden one, unsure of the area or just a little nervous. At the Slug and Hare Bicycle Company we will provide you with not only a quality bicycle but a guide who will teach you all the skills you will need to become a confidant tandem rider if needed, maps, routes, humour and quality throughout designed to provide you with everything you need for a fun and easy day. Why A Tandem?

All tandem riders have something in common, whether it be the love of cycling with a partner or just the feeling of being on a country lane with a good friend and being able to cycle at the same pace with conversation flowing. Tandems offer less punctures, they are faster than 2 solo bikes and no matter what any ones personal ability no one will ever get left behind.

For the young family of 3 a Bratpak or towalong can be added to the back of the tandem so the whole family stays together all day.

Riding in tandem is more efficient than 2 solo bicycles, if one half of the couple wants to really peddle hard, they can while the other can just spin the peddles and enjoy the view. Both are then enjoying the cycling and working out at their own level even if couples are at different fitness levels. The biggest advantage we find when riding a tandem is the ability to communicate with a partner whilst on the bike. For partners its romantic, for old racing buddies sociable and for the young family its quality time together.

Safety

It doesn’t take a genius it spot the differences between a tandem and a solo bike, there are also major differences whilst riding. Tuition is always recommended when hiring a tandem for the first time. With these quick class we can show you the basics of getting on and off, starting and stopping. To become totally confidant it is worth hiring for several days with the first morning spent tuition if required. After that get out and enjoy.
